Oktoberfest at the Beach 2009

Coming up this Friday, October 2nd, from 6-9 PM at Ocean Beach in New London, CT, join me at Oktoberfest at the Beach 2009! It’s a chowder cookoff and beer fest all in one, put on by the New London Rotary club.

I have been volunteering this festival for a few years now. And it is a blast every time. The Rhythm Method provides the live music each time, and always provides a reliable list of rock favorites. The food is always top notch. The people are all nice as can be. And of course, there’s tons of beer.

Normally there are a couple dozen tables each sporting several beers. The flyer claims 30 breweries with 100 different beers. It’s a great way to try something you’ve seen on the shelf but never shelled out for.

Anheuser-Busch makes a showing with many of their “craft-like” brands. And there are a variety of imports from all over the world. But best of all, there’s always plenty of solid American craft beer there – from Dogfish Head to Long Trail to Cottrell to Sam Adams.

This is not the fest where you might expect to find that ultra-rare barrel-aged draft-only brett-fermented Double Stout Belgian IPA. This is a fest where you can find a great mix of food, drink, music, and people. This is a fest where you can come and participate in the joy of ancient Bavarian weddings (Oktoberfest, that is). This is a fest where you can contribute to a great organization – the New London Rotary Club.

Hope to see you there!
