Video Tasting: Flying Dog Double Dog Double Pale Ale

Flying Dog Double Dog Double Pale AleToday I did number two in the video tasting series. I am getting the hang of it. I made some technical advanced: I figured out how to improve video quality, so I don’t look like all distorted. I also filmed myself. Last time I had Aimée film me, but this time I used a makeshift tripod to hold the camera. But the video inexplicably stopped right as I took a sip, so the original is fragmented into two videos. That’s why it looks a little weird there. I managed to edit out my shocked face at seeing the record light turn off, but there’s a little blip there. I’m no Christopher Rouse, but I managed to combine two videos and leave a little clipping on the floor, all with software that came with Windows (Windows Movie Maker). Who says Windows is no good for media?

The quick version of the review is that this beer is awesome. Everything an IIPA should be to me, big, bitter, with a great fragrance, and a solid taste and bitterness throughout. From start to finish, this one is pure pleasure. Definitely worth it.

My next lesson is to keep the mic away from the front of my face.

Apres-video add-on notes:
This one actually smelled like weed at certain times. I’m accessing old memory banks that I am surprised to find activated by this aroma, but it smelled like good dank kind buds. Like the sticky residue that’s left on your fingers after handling the stuff. That’s Gonzo.

The alcohol became apparent, as I quickly warmed inside from its presence. By the end of the glass, it also manifested itself in that thing we call a buzz.

I could imagine similarities between hops and the other type of buds aroma-wise. There’s a variety grown up in the piney woods of East Texas that does have an aroma of pine and is quite sticky/resinous. Well… that’s what people have told me anyway. Not that I’d know.
